I feel like the world needs an update on my life so here it go's!
Since being back at school, I have gone to class, done homework, slept, and tried to find a job. Today I had an interview with Adventures in Missions so that I will hopefully be spending 2 months this summer in Nicaragua. I need the job so that I can pay for that trip. I am so exhausted, and I think a huge part of it was that I wasn't having good solid quiet times. Well I did today. And it was wonderful. One thing that I've been learning in my quiet time and at church as well is that Jesus is everywhere in the Old Testament. What we read in the OT points to Him. Today I was read the book of Jonah. I know, how many times have I read/heard that story, but today I saw a few new things....
1. Footnote from my Bible of Jonah 1:9- "Worship is literally 'fear.' Fear of God in the OT is the respect that a person has for God, causing him to turn from evil and obey God's commandments."
2. Jonah 1:17-"Jonah was in the fish for three days and three nights."- sound familiar? well, it should! :) It's a parallel to Christ's death and resurrection!
3. Jonah 2:2-"Sheol"-the realm of the dead, often the grave-another parallel to Christ
4. Jonah 2:8-9-"Those who cling to worthless idols forsake faithful love, but as for me, I will sacrifice to You with a voice of thanksgiving. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation is from the Lord!"
I hope that today I can encourage you. Always be looking for things to point to Christ in the OT. You can always find parallels, even in those stories that you've heard a thousand times!
